Concept Statement
Outrage, is a play about 3 historical figures, Bertolt Brecht, Socrates, and Domenico Scandella. As well as 1 fictional character, Steven, a college graduate attending New England University in 1999 writing his thesis paper. All 4 of these characters despite oppression and silencing from authorities, aim to spread their ideas and change the world.
It feels fragmented, like the aftermath of an explosion.
Therefore…
The lighting design for Outrage, will help to create and reinforce special moments in the script, while also serving as reinforcement for the other design elements. The lighting will help to section off different parts of the set to create separation or unification. Also highlighting costumes and props. The lighting will also support unique moments such as the shadowy chorus, elements in the void, and certain smaller locations such as the sermon, and the thesis presentations using textures and unnatural angles.

The Void
A nebulous, textured space where our narrator, Bertolt Brecht, provides context for events in the story. This space feels like an abstract world, different than the other more grounded worlds.
